My Secret Life – A Very Strange Piece of Victorian Erotica

If you are ever curious as to what the strangest book ever written was, then I present to you ‘My Secret Life by Walter’. The true author remains unknown to this day but it is highly suspected that it is the cataloguer of Victorian pornography extraordinaire, Henry Spencer Ashbee.

My Secret Life in it’s entity runs to a whopping 11 volumes and is repetitive and tedious in the extreme. Detailing the mysterious ‘Walter’s’ sexual conquests, it is described as a memoir. Though if it is or not or just some monstrous fake is anyone’s guess.

Fortunately, we do not have to read the entire thing as the composer Dominic Crawford Collins has took up the monumental task  of narrating and setting the book to music here. I urge you to have a look, it’s quite fascinating! The music is beautiful, eerie in places and takes you into a dream-scape; a place beyond time..

The book itself is on the web and can be downloaded for free here.
